A number of Golden Globes attendees, including Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Skyes and Natasha Lyonne, wore pins to the ceremony with the words “BE GOOD” in black caps against a white background — a protest against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after 37-year-old mother Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis last week.
“We need every part of civil society, society to speak up,” anti-ICE pin organiser, Nelini Stamp of Working Families Power, was quoted as saying by NPR. “We need our artists. We need our entertainers. We need the folks who reflect society.”
Nikki Glaser roasting celebrities and the government
Nikki Glaser also brought some politics to the awards show, roasting the U.S. Justice Department along with many of the celebrities in attendance.
“Yes, the Golden Globes: without a doubt, the most important thing that’s happening in the world right now,” she said. “I cannot believe the amount of star power we have in this room tonight. It’s insane. There are so many A-listers. And by A-listers, I do mean people who are on A-list that has been heavily redacted.”
Rose Byrne’s joke about her husband
Rose Byrne’s husband Bobby Cannavale wasn’t in attendance, but when she picked up her award for Best Female Actor (Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy) for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, she made sure to shout him out.
“He couldn’t be here because he’s getting a bearded dragon, and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey,” she said. “So thank you, baby.”
Ryan Coogler thanking audiences for “showing up”
Sinners picked up awards for best original score and cinematic and box office achievement on Sunday. In his acceptance speech, writer/director Ryan Coogler thanked the audience.
“It was an honour on this movie to know it was getting a theatrical release,” said Coogler. “We would remind people every day, in the dog days of summer, in New Orleans, like, ‘Hey, big movie, people gonna see this, big theatre.’ We didn’t know that they would show up, so we just want to say thank you that they did. It meant the world to us.”

“To all my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight: Our softness is not a liability, our depth is not too much, our light does not need permission to shine, we belong in every room we walk into, our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space,” said Taylor.

What is Connections?
The NYT‘s latest daily word game has become a social media hit. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there’s only one correct answer.
If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

KPop Demon Hunters remains forever shining with the smash-hit Netflix film taking home Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for eternal banger “Golden.”
Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans accepted the award on Sunday night alongside producer Michelle Wong, shouting out their relatable female characters like HUNTR/X’s Rumi, Mira, and Zoey.
“Thank you to the Golden Globes and for everyone who believed that a movie so deeply rooted in Korean culture could resonate with a global audience,” said Kang onstage. “Through this film, we really wanted to depict female characters the way that we know women, which is really strong and bold, really silly and weird, and really hungry for food — and sometimes a little thirsty.”

Today’s NYT Strands hints are easy if you’re job hunting.
Strands, the New York Times‘ elevated word-search game, requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns. Every single letter in the grid will be part of an answer. There’s always a theme linking every solution, along with the “spangram,” a special, word or phrase that sums up that day’s theme, and spans the entire grid horizontally or vertically.
By providing an opaque hint and not providing the word list, Strands creates a brain-teasing game that takes a little longer to play than its other games, like Wordle and Connections.
If you’re feeling stuck or just don’t have 10 or more minutes to figure out today’s puzzle, we’ve got all the NYT Strands hints for today’s puzzle you need to progress at your preferred pace.

Where did Wordle come from?
Originally created by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, Wordle rapidly spread to become an international phenomenon, with thousands of people around the globe playing every day. Alternate Wordle versions created by fans also sprang up, including battle royale Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that make you guess multiple words at once.
Wordle eventually became so popular that it was purchased by the New York Times, and TikTok creators even livestream themselves playing.
What’s the best Wordle starting word?
The best Wordle starting word is the one that speaks to you. But if you prefer to be strategic in your approach, we have a few ideas to help you pick a word that might help you find the solution faster. One tip is to select a word that includes at least two different vowels, plus some common consonants like S, T, R, or N.
What happened to the Wordle archive?
The entire archive of past Wordle puzzles was originally available for anyone to enjoy whenever they felt like it, but it was later taken down, with the website’s creator stating it was done at the request of the New York Times. However, the New York Times then rolled out its own Wordle Archive, available only to NYT Games subscribers.
Is Wordle getting harder?
It might feel like Wordle is getting harder, but it actually isn’t any more difficult than when it first began. You can turn on Wordle‘s Hard Mode if you’re after more of a challenge, though.

KPop Demon Hunters keeps goin’ up, up, up with the smash-hit Netflix film taking home Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for eternal banger “Golden.”
Singer-songwriter Ejae, who co-wrote and performed the record-breaking, chart-topping song, accepted the award with co-writers Mark Sonnenblick and Lee Hee-joon.
“When I was a little girl, I worked tirelessly for 10 years to fill one dream to become a K-pop idol, and I was rejected and disappointed that my voice wasn’t good enough,” said Ejae onstage. “So I leaned on songs and music to get through it. Now I’m here as a singer and a songwriter.”
“It’s a dream come true to be part of a song that is helping other girls, other boys, and everyone from all ages get through their hardship and to accept themselves,” she said.
“I just want to say this award goes to people who’ve had their doors closed at them. I can confidently say rejection is redirection, so never give up.”
Ejae then finished with a quote directly from her own “Golden” lyrics: “It’s never too late to shine like you were born to be.”

Sinners took home two awards during the Golden Globes on Sunday, including best original score and the award for cinematic and box office achievement. Ryan Coogler‘s lauded film made a whopping $368 million worldwide at the box office, breaking more than one record.
“I just want to thank the audience for showing up,” said Coogler onstage during his acceptance speech. “This movie was made by hundreds of people. We don’t always be working in the film business, wear tuxedos, and look glammed up — it’s usually a grind. We’ll be wearing like, performance fishing gear and being in the swamps.”
Coogler then noted the importance of Sinners being released in cinemas.
“It was an honour on this movie to know it was getting a theatrical release. We would remind people every day, in the dog days of summer, in New Orleans, like, ‘Hey, big movie, people gonna see this, big theatre.’ We didn’t know that they would show up, so we just want to say thank you that they did. It meant the world to us,” he said.
“We created a very special community and family making this film, grinding every day while many of us were away from our own families at home,” said producer Zinzi Coogler onstage. “Thank you for pouring into this story. You are all masters of your craft at an elite level and it was an honour to share this space with you.”

“We live in a very divided country in a world right now, but I think cinema — and I call TV “cinema” — brings us all together, not only as an audience, but as a community. And we show people what we can do when a bunch of individuals, hundreds of us, who have a common goal, and we work together with decency, humanity, acceptance, and respect for each other, we can do amazing things.”

Googles new tech will let you buy stuff directly from an AI chatbot

As if we’re not already spending too much on online purchases, Google just announced new tech that will make shopping even easier.
At the core of the announcement is the just-launched Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), a “new open standard for agentic commerce.” Developed with major online retailers including Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart, it will enable new ways to purchase things online, such as from within a conversation with an AI agent.
For example, you could ask an AI to help you find a new carry-on suitcase, to which it may offer some options. You’ll soon be able to click on the product right there within that convo and buy it without ever leaving that screen.
Google says more than 20 partners have endorsed the system, including heavyweights like American Express, Best Buy, Macy’s, Mastercard, Stripe, Home Depot, and Visa. For payments, you’ll be able to use Google Pay, with shipping info coming from your Google Wallet; PayPal is joining as a partner “soon.”

Google is also launching a tool called Business Agent, a “virtual sales associate that can answer product questions in a brand’s voice.” So if you’re searching for Reebok sneakers on Google, the branded agent might pop up as an option and help you find the right ones; once again, you’ll be able to complete the purchase and check out directly in that conversation.
Google says Business Agent is live starting today, with partners including Lowe’s, Michael’s, Poshmark, and Reebok.

Finally, Google is introducing a new type of ads called Direct Offers, allowing advertisers to give exclusive offers to shoppers who are searching for products in AI mode. In other words, you might get a discount from the AI agent you’re chatting with, which should push shoppers towards using this type of experience more often.

NYT Pips hints, answers for January 12, 2026

Welcome to your guide to Pips, the latest game in the New York Times catalogue.
Released in August 2025, the Pips puts a unique spin on dominoes, creating a fun single-player experience that could become your next daily gaming habit.
Currently, if you’re stuck, the game only offers to reveal the entire puzzle, forcing you to move onto the next difficulty level and start over. However, we have you covered! Below are piecemeal answers that will serve as hints so that you can find your way through each difficulty level.
How to play Pips
If you’ve ever played dominoes, you’ll have a passing familiarity for how Pips is played. As we’ve shared in our previous hints stories for Pips, the tiles, like dominoes, are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference between a traditional game of dominoes and Pips is the color-coded conditions you have to address. The touching tiles don’t necessarily have to match.
The conditions you have to meet are specific to the color-coded spaces. For example, if it provides a single number, every side of a tile in that space must add up to the number provided. It is possible – and common – for only half a tile to be within a color-coded space.
Here are common examples you’ll run into across the difficulty levels:
-
Number: All the pips in this space must add up to the number.
-
Equal: Every domino half in this space must be the same number of pips.
-
Not Equal: Every domino half in this space must have a completely different number of pips.
-
Less than: Every domino half in this space must add up to less than the number.
-
Greater than: Every domino half in this space must add up to more than the number.
If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

Hamnet star Jessie Buckley took home Best Female Actor (Motion Picture – Drama) at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, giving a moving speech that thanked basically the entire cast and crew of Chloé Zhao’s film.
“This is not a normal feeling or situation to be in, but thank you Golden Globes,” said Buckley accepting her award. “Chloe, Paul, Maggie, Max, Emily, Jacobi, Joe, the 400 extras, I adore you. I would rave in that Globe for the rest of my life with you.”
Buckley highlighted the international nature of the Hamnet crew who told the story of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes, and the loss of their son Hamnet, whose death occurred years before the playwright penned Hamlet.
“It was such an extraordinary set to be part of, because we were telling the story of probably the most famous Brit that ever lived. We had a Chinese director, a lot of Irish, a mostly Polish crew, beside our British family,” she said, before thanking one crew member in particular.
“Actually, I’d really like to thank our grip Tomac, because during shooting, Tomac started to disappear a little bit during the shoot, and I found him one day at the back of his truck, and he was chopping up potatoes and onions and meat. He brought his ginormous cast iron pot over from Poland, and he was making soup — and this soup started turning up on set, it was delicious. Thanks, Tomac, for bringing your pot to set.”

Is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms kid-friendly?
-
Save
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is undoubtedly the lightest Game of Thrones show yet.
Admittedly, that’s not a high bar to clear, given that both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are brimming with heavy subject matter. With their graphic depictions of violence and sexual assault, they’re not at all suitable for young audiences.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms shrugs off its predecessors’ grimdark tones, opting instead for the more light-hearted tale of hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his new squire, the sassy young Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). But while the show offers up an all-around funnier, even occasionally wholesome view of Westeros, is that enough to make it kid-friendly, should any young viewers want a gateway into George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world?
Is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms appropriate for young audiences?
The short answer is no. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is certainly light by Game of Thrones standards, but it’s still full of scenes and subject matter that parents may not want their kids to watch.
Ultimately, though, whether a child watches the show comes down to parental discretion. Read on for a spoiler-free guide to some of the adult topics audiences may encounter in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
For starters, violence is still very much on the table. The series takes place at a tournament, meaning there will be jousting and sword fighting. You can bet some of the competing knights won’t play fair, resulting in a solid amount of graphic injuries.
As an HBO show — airing at 10 p.m., no less! — A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms features its fair share of nudity, although it’s light on sex scenes. Instead, the nudity is mostly relegated to the background, apart from the occasional sequence involving key characters. The show also discusses sex work and alludes to sexual violence, and the dialogue is peppered with profanity.
For better or worse, these elements are all staples of the non-kid-friendly Game of Thrones universe, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms remains squarely part of that world.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres Jan. 18 at 10 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
