For All Mankind will end with season 6

For All Mankind starts streaming again this week, with its fifth season set to premiere on March 27th. But Apple is also taking this moment to clarify the show’s future – it’s been renewed for a sixth season, which will also be its last.

For All Mankind premiered in 2019 as part of Apple TV’s initial launch lineup, and the alternate history sci-fi show imagines what would happen if the Soviet Union landed the first crewed mission on the moon, thus setting off a very different space race. While the story began in 1969, each season jumps ahead several years, and when season 5 kicks off it’ll be set in the 2010s on a Mars base called Happy Val …

The MPC Sample is my new favorite portable beat maker

The MPC Sample is my new favorite portable beat maker

Akai MPC is one of the most storied names in music history. But over the last decade, it’s strayed pretty far from its roots as a humble sampler. The modern MPCs run virtual synthesizers, have complex arrangement tools, and sport large touchscreens. They have more in common with your computer running a DAW than they do with the original MPC60. The MPC Sample is both a return to basics and Akai’s triumphant foray into the growing market for portable, battery-powered, and affordable music gear.

The MPC Sample has everything you need to make beats right out of the box. There’s a reasonably bright 2.4-inch color screen for editing samples and …

Anthropic has updated Claude to perform tasks in its Code and Cowork AI tools autonomously by using your computer for you. The new feature can be used to automatically open files, use web browsers and apps, and run dev tools “with no setup required,” even when you’re away from your computer, according to Anthropic’s announcement.

These new capabilities are available as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers, and computer usage is limited to macOS “for now,” according to Anthropic. The feature builds on autonomous capabilities that were introduced on Claude’s 3.5 Sonnet AI model in 2024, but now brings those to the chatbot’s C …

Ayaneo says selling its Windows gaming handheld ‘is no longer sustainable’

Ayaneo says selling its Windows gaming handheld ‘is no longer sustainable’
  • Save

Ayaneo is suspending preorders for its $1,999 Next 2 gaming handheld due to the skyrocketing price of digital storage. In a post on Monday, Ayaneo says the overall cost to build its Windows handheld now nearly doubles the price it originally set, making it “unsustainable” to continue selling.

“Even before the launch of NEXT 2, storage prices had already been rising for several months,” Ayaneo writes. “At that time, we believed the price might be approaching its peak. Even if it meant making little to no profit-or even a slight loss-we still decided to move forward with the launch. However, what we did not expect was that storage prices woul …

Nuki adds Apple Home Key to its smart lock

Nuki adds Apple Home Key to its smart lock

This week, my top pick for a retrofit smart lock launched the first Aliro-compatible keypad. The Nuki Keypad 2 NFC ($179) brings tap-to-unlock via Apple’s Home Key and Samsung’s Digital Home Key to the Nuki smart lock, allowing you to tap your phone or smartwatch to unlock your door, just like you tap to pay.

Aliro is a new smart lock standard supported by all major platforms and handset manufacturers. It is designed to allow any smart lock to be securely unlocked by any smartphone, regardless of manufacturer, without requiring proprietary apps.

An open standard, Aliro stores a digital key in your phone’s wallet that you can tap to a com …

Zoox is bringing its robotaxis to Austin and Miami

Zoox is stretching out its legs. The Amazon-owned robotaxi today announced that it’s gearing up to expand its service in San Francisco and Las Vegas, while also eyeing two additional cities – Austin and Miami – for future service.

Zoox, which is one of the few companies to use a purpose-built autonomous vehicle without traditional driving controls, said it has driven nearly two million driverless miles and ferried approximately 350,000 passengers since launching its customer service last year. Zoox doesn’t charge for its robotaxi trips, as it’s only approved to operate its custom-built vehicle on public roads under a “demonstration exempti …

The Hisense U7SG is a great midrange TV you shouldn’t buy yet

The Hisense U7SG is a great midrange TV you shouldn’t buy yet

With all of the focus on RGB LED technology, it seemed like more affordable mini-LED TVs had been shooed to the side. But with the Hisense U7SG, we’re getting our first great midrange general-use TV of 2026. It gets bright, comes in a wide range of sizes, supports every HDR mode you’ll ever need, has great gaming support, and runs on Google TV – my favorite built-in OS, and much better than those from LG and Samsung.

It’s a great living room TV, but you shouldn’t buy it yet.

For years, the U7 series has been sandwiched between the U8 and U6 as a capable midrange option. But this year, the U8 moves into the RGB LED lineup as the UR8. This …

Nintendo cuts Switch 2 production amid weakening console sales

Nintendo cuts Switch 2 production amid weakening console sales
  • Save

Nintendo will produce fewer Switch 2 units than it previously projected in response to weakening demand for the console in the US, Bloomberg reports. Four million units of Nintendo’s flagship device are expected to be made this quarter instead of the six million it had originally planned, according to unnamed sources cited by the publication, with the reduced output set to continue in April.

Last month, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said during an earnings call that “overseas sales were somewhat weaker than expected.”

This slowdown follows a record-breaking launch in June last year, making the Switch 2 Nintendo’s fastest-selling con …
