Whether you’re looking to get into flying drones or just want to add another to your collection, DJI is the brand to shop. Despite news of DJI drones being banned in the United States, there are still ways to get around the ban if you look hard enough. You can still keep the drones you own, and you can still shop those on sale at retailers like Amazon. And we’ve got one that you can snap up right now for an excellent price.

As of April 22, get the DJI Neo Fly More Combo for $259 at Amazon, down from its usual price of $349 with an on-page coupon. That’s $90 off and a discount of 26%.

This bundle includes the DJI Neo drone, a remote controller, RC cable, flight battery, two-way charging hub, propeller guards, spare propellers, spare propeller screws, a screwdriver, gimbal protector, and a Type-C to Type-C cable.

The DJI Neo Fly More Combo is a lightweight and simple to fly option for users of any skill level. It’s lighter than your phone, in fact, and small enough that you don’t need to register with the FAA to fly it. You can use your phone to operate it, and it can take off from your hand with a single button push, so it’s already simple to use right out of the box.

You can just fly the drone around, or you can take photos from a bird’s eye point of view with smart subject tracking and quickshots that your drone can take all on its own. You can also control it via voice or RC depending on your preference.

With 4K ultra stabilized video, you can also stack plenty of crisp, high definition video while flying, all without complex setups that confuse and potentially frustrate.

if you’re ready to get into drone photography or just want a chance to fly one without breaking the bank, this combo is well worth splurging on.

Google Wallet now lets you track flights from your lock screen. How to try it.

Google Wallet now lets you track flights from your lock screen. How to try it.

Google just made life a tiny bit easier for Android users who love to travel.

9to5google spotted a new lock screen widget for Android 16 that gives you persistent progress updates on your flights. It’s very simple and straightforward: It shows your departing airport, your destination airport, your estimated arrival time, and a progress bar measuring how deep into the flight you are.

As 9to5google noted, this is on top of some already-existing features for travelers who add their boarding passes to the Google Wallet app. Those include push notifications about flight changes, but the flight progress widget is brand-new, having been promised by Google last year.

If you want to try it, well, you’d better have a flight lined up first. Add the boarding pass to Google Wallet, and the widget should appear shortly before takeoff. In other words, you don’t really have to do anything other than put your boarding pass in your phone.

This marks another step forward for Google Wallet, which replaced Google Pay in 2024 as the go-to destination for credit cards and other important kinds of digital documentation on Android devices. By all accounts, it’s been a successful transition for Android users, and if Google keeps adding neat little conveniences like this flight tracker widget, it’ll only get better.

Aura digital picture frames are up to $30 off at Amazon ahead of Mothers Day

Aura digital picture frames are up to $30 off at Amazon ahead of Mothers Day

SAVE UP TO $30: Aura digital picture frames are on sale at Amazon for up to $30 off depending on size. The 10-inch Aura Carver digital frame is on sale for $159, down from the normal price of $179 and the 12-inch Aura Aspen is on sale for $199, down from the standard price of $229.

It’s a struggle to land on the perfect Mother’s Day gift. Moms have a tendency to either say they don’t want anything (do not fall for this) or actually own pretty much everything you can think of gifting them. Instead of buying them another pair of pajamas, go big this year and get a digital photo frame. Some great options are on sale today at Amazon.

As of April 22, Aura digital picture frames are on sale at Amazon for up to $30 off depending on size. The 10-inch Aura Carver digital frame is on sale for $159, down from the normal price of $179 and the 12-inch Aura Aspen is on sale for $199, down from the standard price of $229. That’s an 11% and 13% discount, respectively. The sale price on the 12-inch Aura Aspen matches the lowest we’ve ever seen at Amazon.

Photo memories are always cherished, and opting for a digital picture frame means you can add thousands of images to the collection. Aura makes it simple to upload pictures to any frame from anywhere in the world. Multiple family members can have access to a single frame for uploads that mom will enjoy everyday.

The Aura app is fantastic for mom to control her photo preference, set display times, and add her own favorites to the frame. Both the Aura Carver and the Aura Aspen have a built-in speaker, so you can even upload videos and voice notes to the frame for mom to enjoy.

Keep in mind the frame requires a WiFi connection and it needs to be plugged in to operate. If you’re gifting the Aura frame, you can even upload photos, videos, and a gift message through the Aura app without opening the premium gift box the Aura frame comes in.

Before these sale prices disappear, gift mom an Aura frame for Mother’s Day this year. It’s a gift she’ll be able to enjoy all day, everyday.

Meta will track employee mouse movements and keystrokes for AI training, report says

Meta will track employee mouse movements and keystrokes for AI training, report says

Meta is about to ramp up surveillance of its employees, Reuters reports, but in a very 2026 twist, it’s not meant to catch people slacking off.

Reuters reports that Meta is installing tracking software that can capture mouse movements and keystrokes on U.S.-based employees’ computers. While this sort of surveillance isn’t unheard of in corporate America, the motivation here is slightly novel: Meta is reportedly going to use the data to train AI agents, per a company memo seen by Reuters.

This will be done through a tool called Model Capability Initiative, or MCI.

Meta’s memo said the idea is to help AI agents improve at tasks they currently struggle with, such as using keyboard shortcuts. And in a different memo reportedly sent to employees on Monday, CTO Andrew Bosworth said to expect more internal data collection in order to make agents better at replicating human work. The goal, per Bosworth, is for agents to do most of the work while humans sit back and monitor the situation.

“The vision we are building towards is one where our agents primarily do the work and our role is to direct, review and help them improve,” Bosworth said, per Reuters.

While Meta did not explicitly say any of this was meant to replace human workers down the line, it’s reasonable to wonder if that’s where this is eventually going. Tens of thousands of people lost their jobs because of AI last year, and Meta has already laid off a quadruple-digit number of people (though those were unrelated to AI) earlier this year, with more cuts coming later in May.

If, at some point in the future, Meta reduces its workforce with the aim of having AI agents do the work instead, it may have been those same Meta employees who trained the AI in the first place.

In the meantime, Reuters reports that Meta assured employees that the data will not be used in performance reviews.

Meta hasn’t had a great year, privacy-wise, and we’re only four months into 2026.

In March, the company was accused of sending Meta Ray-Ban user recordings, including intimate images, to offshore Meta workers, also for AI training. Earlier this month, we reported on the case of a former Meta employee under criminal investigation for downloading private Facebook photos. And after a report that Meta was planning to add facial recognition technology into its smart glasses, a group of 70 organizations, including the ACLU, signed a public letter urging Meta to reverse course.

Get Ankers 14-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 Dock for $60 less at Amazon

SAVE 15%: As of April 22, you can get the Anker Prime 14-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 Dock for $339.99, down from $399.99, at Amazon. That’s a 15% discount or $60 savings.

Working off a laptop is great until you realize you only have two ports and need to plug something in. If you’re hooked up to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, you’re pretty much out of luck on the rest. Not only that, but your previously uncluttered desk will most likely look like a Best Buy exploded (a rat’s nest of cords isn’t cute or helpful for anyone getting work done).

If you literally hate mess and cords as much as I do, you need a docking station to hide all that chaos and protect your aesthetic. Right now, Anker’s Prime TB5 Docking Station is on sale for $339.99 at Amazon, down from $399.99. (That’s a $60 price cut.)

Are you going to use all 14 ports at the exact same time? Probably not, but you’ll never have to dig through your bag for a specific adapter again. You just plug a single cable into your laptop, and the dock handles the rest. It features a Thunderbolt 5 upstream port, two Thunderbolt 5 downstream ports, two USB-C ports, three USB-A ports, SD and TF card readers, a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port, an audio jack, and your choice of HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 2.1. It’s also fast enough to transfer a 150GB file in 25 seconds.

LA public schools pass screen time limits for students in a first

LA public schools pass screen time limits for students in a first

Los Angeles public school students may be returning to the age of college-ruled notebooks and Scantrons, following a Tuesday school board vote that will limit the use of computers, laptops, and tablets in classrooms.

Titled “Using Technology with Intention,” the new resolution mandates the creation of grade-level and subject-specific screen time limits across Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) schools, including a complete ban on device usage for kindergarten and first grade. The use of one-to-one devices, like individual Chromebooks, will be discouraged for second through fifth grades, as well.

Revised guidelines will also address video-aided lesson plans, access to video streaming platforms like YouTube, and expanded restrictions on gaming and social media platforms.

District staff must present the revised tech use policy by June, which will go into effect for all LAUSD students beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. Guidelines will be reevaluated every year, and schools are tasked with tracking and sharing student screen time numbers with parents.

The resolution cites increasing concern about the effect of screen time on young minds and alleged screen addiction, including recent Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) studies that show a correlation between high screen time and adverse health effects. The board was unanimously in favor of the tech restrictions, with one recusal.

“We know that tech is not going away and can be a powerful tool in the classroom. This is not about going backwards. This is about rethinking school time and screen time in schools to ensure we are doing what actually helps students learn best,” board member Nick Melvoin said during Tuesday’s meeting.

“This is not about going backwards. This is about rethinking school time…”

Advocates, parents, and even students have spent the last year lobbying for greater tech restrictions following the passing of a 2025 bell-to-bell cellphone ban restricting the use of personal devices during school hours. Schools Beyond Screens, a national classroom tech safety coalition founded by LAUSD parents and teachers, helped craft the resolution in collaboration with board members and co-sponsors Melvoin, Karla Griego, Tanya Ortiz Franklin, Jerry Yang, Kelly Gonez, and Rocío Rivas.

“Now is the time for a safe and science-backed approach to classroom technology, one that is not guided by Big Tech talking points like screen value over screen time,” the organization wrote in a press release following the decision.

“There is much work to be done, and this is only the beginning, but today, we are proud, grateful, and – for the first time in a long time – hopeful. Our kids may yet have the kind of public education that they deserve — one that is proven effective and free of undue digital distraction, harmful content, and corporate exploitation.”

Apples excellent AirPods Pro 3 are back on sale for just $200 — a $50 savings

Apples excellent AirPods Pro 3 are back on sale for just $200 — a $50 savings

SAVE $49.01: The Apple AirPods Pro 3 are 20% at Amazon and Walmart as of April 22. Snag a pair for just $199.99 (normally $249).

Our very own Stan Schroeder is fresh off reviewing the new AirPods Max 2, Apple’s updated over-ear headphones. While he thought their noise cancellation has improved since the last generation, they still can’t block out sounds as well as the AirPods Pro 3: “Wearing them on a busy street makes the outside noise vanish in a spectacular fashion,” he writes of the earbuds.

So, if you’re an Apple user looking for best-in-class ANC, stick with the AirPods Pro 3. Right now, they happen to be on sale for just $199.99 at Amazon and Walmart — that’s a savings of nearly $50 and one of their best deals to date. They briefly hit $184 on Amazon back in February, but never since. (And they were $219.99 everywhere last Black Friday.)

For comparison’s sake, the AirPods Max 2 are up to $350 pricier depending on the color.

The AirPods Pro 3 actually have the same H2 chip as the AirPods Max 2, so they support the same suite of smart features like Adaptive Audio and Live Translation. On top of that, they come with a built-in heart rate monitor that “worked perfectly,” per Mashable contributor Adam Doud. (Read his full review.)

On their own, the AirPods Pro 3 will net you up to eight hours of battery life per charge with their ANC enabled. Their included charging case adds an extra 24 hours of use.

I can personally assure you that you won’t find the AirPods Pro 3 on sale for anywhere cheaper — even if you go for a used pair. In new condition, they’re $239.99 at B&H Photo and full price at Best Buy and Target. Then there’s Best Buy’s open-box AirPods Pro 3, which are are $204.99 in fair condition. Pass.

If a new TV with a big screen, stunningly bright picture, and affordable tag is what you’re after, the 75-inch Hisense U8 TV is a great pick — especially now that it’s at a record-low price.

As of April 22, the Hisense 75-inch U8 Mini LED ULED 4K TV is down to just $1,249.99 at both Amazon and Best Buy. Its original list price is $2,499.99, which means you’ll save 50% or a full $1,250. That’s officially the best price we’ve ever seen on this model. Previously, it dropped to $1,297.99 during Cyber Week, but this price beats that one by nearly $50.

CNET (Mashable’s sister site, also owned by Ziff Davis) reviewer Ty Pendlebury called the 2025 U8 TV the brightest TV he’s ever reviewed, but added that it “complements that brightness with excellent contrast and well-saturated colors.” It’s remarkably vibrant no matter the environment and no matter what you’re watching. The ice during the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs will be absolutely glistening on this TV, with its 5000 nits peak brightness, up to 5,600 local dimming zones, and support for HDR in Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. The 165Hz native refresh rate doesn’t hurt either. It won’t have any of the glitching and stuttering your old TV did.

It’s not just great for watching sports, either. Those dim-lit scenes in your favorite shows and movies will actually pop with the U8’s ultra-bright Mini LED panel. It’s even IMAX-enhanced for cinema-like picture quality. The Google TV smart platform provides a streamlined interface covering all the major streaming services, as well as Google Cast, Apple AirPlay, and Google Assistant for hands-free control.

On a normal day, we’d say the 75-inch Hisense U8 TV is too expensive for most folks, but as of April 22, it’s finally down to a price that won’t cause sticker shock.

Tinder responds to viral video about tricking facial scan

Tinder responds to viral video about tricking facial scan

Earlier this month, journalist Christophe Haubursin published a YouTube video called “Something very weird is happening on Tinder.” In the video, which has over 1.5 million views as of this publication, Haubursin described a way to workaround to Tinder’s Face Check feature — the facial recognition that is now required for all U.S. users as of Oct. 2025.

What Haubursin and his interviewees discovered is a bunch of profiles that appeared normal, but the last photo on each profile was…off. It was usually a digitally-altered image of a different person in a weird scenario, like on a billboard or in a Victorian painting. And if someone matched with this person and asked about the image, they dodged the question. Instead, they asked to move the conversation to WhatsApp, where it became clear they were romance scammers.

But how did they evade Face Check? Haubursin found that Tinder and Hinge, both owned by Match Group, only need one photo for the facial recognition software. So these people may be the actual person in that odd image, and able to pass the face scan. Then, they could grift images of other people from the internet to use for the bulk of their profile.

Tinder didn’t respond to Haubursin’s request for comment, but it did respond to Mashable’s.

“We’re aware of the concerns raised about our Photo Verification and Face Check features. In recent weeks, we’ve taken action to strengthen our Photo Verification badging logic, including requiring greater consistency across profile photos and additional reviews to achieve higher confidence in cases that warrant extra scrutiny,” a Tinder spokesperson told Mashable. “Face Check, our more recently launched verification system, builds on Photo Verification to help confirm accounts belong to real users. We are committed to continuously improving and investing in our systems to keep Tinder safe and authentic for our users.”

Mashable also recently spoke with Hinge’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Ben Celebicic, about this, as Haubursin also replicated this on Hinge (which began implementing Face Check after Tinder). Celebicic hasn’t seen Haubursin’s video, but he did say that there’s a constant battle between trust and safety teams and policy-violating actors.

“They’ll find new ways,” he said. “We’ll find ways to prevent them from accessing the platform.”

There’s not going to be a single product the team builds that will fully prevent people from bypassing our solution, Celebicic continued. He said they have a big team working on these issues, and they’re in tune with new ways bad actors try to penetrate the platform and work to fix them.

Around one-third of Hinge’s workforce is dedicated to trust and safety, the app told Mashable, and Match Group invests $125 million annually in this area.

Trust and safety is a major concern for dating apps. In Sept. 2025, two senators sent a letter to Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff, urging him to do something about romance scammers on the platforms. In Dec., a class-action lawsuit against Match Group claimed that a serial rapist was allowed on Tinder and Hinge after several women reported him.

Facial recognition scans have boomed recently thanks to the influx of age-verification laws, which require a robust method of proving someone’s age in order to access certain content, usually explicit content. These methods include uploading a government ID to a platform, using a credit card, or in other cases, scanning your face. But, like with Face Check, people have found workarounds to evade the scan and see the content they want to see.

Grab a Samsung Galaxy S26 for under $100 without a trade-in

Grab a Samsung Galaxy S26 for under $100 without a trade-in

TL;DR: You can get the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S26 for under $100 at T-Mobile, and you don’t even have to trade in your old phone. You just need to add a new line on a qualifying plan (starting at $85/month) and keep the line active for 24 months to get up to $800 in bill credits.

Getting a new phone usually means trading in your old one (as long as it’s in pristine condition) or forking over a bunch of cash in fees, accessories, etc. If your current screen is cracked or you were hoping to pass it down to your kid, you’re out of luck. But T-Mobile is offering a no-trade-in-required deal where you can get the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S26 for under $100.

The catch? You’ll need to buy the phone on a monthly payment plan and add a new line on a qualifying plan, like Experience More (which runs $85 per month with AutoPay). The good news is that this isn’t just for new sign-ups — existing T-Mobile members on select plans, including legacy Go5G Plus, also qualify. (Just keep in mind that depending on your specific plan tier, you might need to meet certain tenure requirements, like having been on a postpaid plan for two to five years.) T-Mobile applies up to an $800 discount via 24 monthly bill credits, so as long as you keep the line active for two years, you just have to cover the tax on the $899.99 pre-credit price and a $35 device connection charge upfront.

If you decide to make the jump, the S26 has plenty of new tech to justify the upgrade. It features new Galaxy AI tools, including Circle to Search, which lets you highlight text or images on your screen to translate them or look them up without switching apps. Plus, with full RCS support, you can finally send high-res photos and get read receipts in group chats with your iPhone friends.

Jackery makes a large lineup of portable power stations and the Explorer 300 is an ideal model for taking along on short camping trips or during day adventures. It has a 293Wh battery with a 300W output. That’ll recharge a phone about 13 times or keep a laptop running for about 3.5 hours.

A major benefit of the Jackery Explorer 300 is its compact size, measuring just nine inches long, 7.8 inches tall, and six inches deep. Plus, it weighs just 7.1 pounds which makes it easy to pack along on the camping or hiking trip.

Jackery equipped this model with two AC outlets, one 100W USB-C, and dual USB-A. Recharging the Jackery Explorer 300 with standard AC wall power will take about two hours or you can connect it to a 100W solar panel to get recharged.

It’s worth noting this is an older Jackery portable power station and it uses a lithium ion battery. New portable power stations these days use longer-lasting LiFePO4 (lithium ion phosphate) battery cells. There are a few main differences between these two battery chemistries, but the most relevant is likely the lifespan. Lithium ion batteries don’t last as long as LiFePO4 batteries. Jackery says the Explorer 300 should maintain about 80% of its original battery capacity after 800 cycles. By contrast, most LiFePO4 power stations maintain about 80% after 3,000 to 4,000 cycles. However, given the affordable price of the Explorer 300, it could be a great model for many people.

If you have outdoor summer plans that’ll take you off grid, upgrade the experience by packing along the Jackery Explorer 300. It’s on sale at Amazon for only $188.99 which matches the lowest we’ve ever seen.

Hands-on: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a good palate cleanser after the Mario movie

Hands-on: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a good palate cleanser after the Mario movie

After seeing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (stinky! not good!), I could really use a more positive piece of media to associate with Yoshi right now. It’s fortuitous timing, then, that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is right around the corner.

Nintendo’s next upcoming Switch 2-exclusive (and, at this point in time, one of the only announced Switch 2 games with a release date) is out May 21, and I got to play a couple of hours of it at a preview event in NYC. While I’m still not entirely sure that this eminently lightweight, kid-friendly adventure is what I want out of a Yoshi game, it’s got a really neat take on creative sandbox experimentation and an absolutely gorgeous visual style.

To put it simply, if you like throwing things at other things just to see what will happen — or if you need a new game your young kids can play without getting frustrated — then Yoshi and the Mysterious Book should be on your radar.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book just wants you to explore, dude

I will admit that before I got my hands on it, I had a bit of a hard time grasping the core concept of Yoshi’s first starring adventure since 2019.

Mysterious Book simultaneously feels like it has a lot going on when you’re flutter-jumping around one of its many vibrant, literary worlds. But on a macro level, it’s really a game about just doing stuff until you don’t feel like doing stuff anymore, without much in the way of time pressure (or any other kind of pressure) to stress the player out.

Its premise finds a group of colorful Yoshi dinosaurs hanging out with a, well, mysterious book called Mr. E. He’s a cool, leatherbound encyclopedia with a mustache, but he also seems to have misplaced the contents of his pages, and it’s up to Yoshi to jump inside the book and figure out as much information as possible about the fantastical creatures it documents.

Each chapter is a gorgeously illustrated tableau of various creatures hangin’ out in their natural habitats, and zooming in on a creature will enter a level based around it.

Once you’re in a level, the idea is to simply discover as many weird little systemic interactions between creatures and their environments as you can, primarily by either trying to eat them (as Yoshi is wont to do) or by stashing them on Yoshi’s saddle and throwing them at different animals or objects. Discovering different types of interactions rewards the player with stars, which can be used to unlock more levels.

Mr. E in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

Mr. E is a cool dude.

For example, the first level I played involved multi-colored flowers. When I tried to eat one, I got a star for discovering that you can convert them into eggs. When I carried one on my back and passed by a patch of grass, a field of flowers in the same color as the one I had on my back sprouted, giving me another star. The rest of the level mostly revolved around growing flowers in specific places to solve puzzles, and within a few minutes, I’d collected a bunch of stars and was able to leave whenever I wanted to.

Mysterious Book‘s flow sounds a bit basic and honestly boring when written out like that, but a couple of things keep it from feeling that way in practice.

For starters, simply moving Yoshi around these 2D side-scrolling sandboxes is a delight thanks to sharp platforming and egg-throwing mechanics that have worked for 30 years. Beyond that, Mysterious Book has a fairly jaw-dropping art style that evokes stop-motion animation in a 2D setting.

Some animations purposely have a lower frame rate to create that effect, and between that and the simply outstanding character and environmental art on display, Mysterious Book has one of the coolest looks for any Yoshi game ever.

Yoshi and flower in Mysterious Book

You really need to see this in motion to understand how pretty it is.

It also helps that the levels progressively get more involved as they go. One of my favorites involved a certain type of bug that, for lack of a better term, body-snatched various objects in the environment to menace Yoshi. The level happened to be full of watermelons, which the bug could inhabit to turn into a flying seed-spitting machine gun, but luckily, Yoshi could also rapid-fire seeds by eating one.

After a while, the main objective of the level was to quickly eat watermelons before the bugs could get to them, and if they did get to one, the game briefly turned into a fun little side-scrolling shootout between Yoshi and a flying watermelon.

Of course, there were also lots of other goofy things going on in the environment, so if I wanted to, I could ignore the watermelon bugs and just poke and prod at other things to collect discovery stars.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a very safe space

I’m very into the idea of little 2D sandboxes where everything can interact with everything else, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book seems to be thoroughly constructed around that idea. My one and only potential hangup with it after the demo I played is that, as a demo attendant told me, Yoshi cannot take damage or die in this game. When the watermelon bugs spit seeds at Yoshi, the worst thing that can happen is that the player just gets a little annoyed.

This looks like a great time! I wish I was doing this instead of typing words on a computer.

I’m not dense enough to misunderstand the target audience for Mysterious Book — young gamers.

I think kids will enjoy this Yoshi title even more than I did

This upcoming title is overtly kid-forward in a way that not every Nintendo game does, and that’s broadly a good thing. The uncomplicated gameplay is ideal for young button mashers who just want to run around and try stuff.

I think it kicks ass that Nintendo is producing high-quality software that can be enjoyed by players young and old, especially in a world where seemingly every other game marketed to kids is some kind of Roblox nightmare. Having said that, removing any sense of risk from Mysterious Book made portions of the demo feel a bit aimless and not super exciting.

However, I’m open to the possibility that over the course of the full game, I’ll be able to settle into Yoshi and the Mysterious Book‘s distinctly and, at times, delightfully lackadaisical rhythm. We’ll find out together next month.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on May 21. It’s available for pre-order now at Nintendo and Amazon for $69.99.

Hinges latest feature makes date planning a little easier

Hinges latest feature makes date planning a little easier

Today, dating app Hinge is launching a new feature to skip over the talking phase: Date Ideas.

With Date Ideas, users can share their intention to go out and meet in-person. When updating one’s profile, a user can select three Date Idea options, including writing their own. Think: drinks, seeing a movie, taking a walk, going on a picnic, and the like.

Then, if a potential match is viewing a profile with set Date Ideas, they can pick one and select when they’re free from a drop-down menu. This doesn’t automatically schedule a date (there’s no integration with Hinge and Google Calendar…yet, anyway), but the intention of getting off the app is already there if they match.

screenshot of hinge date ideas feature

Credit: Hinge

Date Ideas is the latest feature Hinge added to make it a little easier to meet and chat with someone instead of “liking” endlessly. In Dec., Hinge added AI-driven Convo Starters to avoid a lackluster first message. And last Feb., Hinge added Match Note, a private way daters can let someone know something intimate about them that may be difficult to bring up but they want them to know right away (f.e., that they’re sober).

Every feature Hinge designs is built around the metric of getting people to meet in real life, Hinge’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Ben Celebicic, told Mashable. So, every feature starts with a challenge that daters feel.

“In this specific case, the core challenge we heard was that they match, they feel super excited about matching with someone, but then they get stuck in a messaging state and never make a plan,” he said. The dreaded pen pal trap.

The app’s research team, Hinge Labs, found that 79 percent of daters want to skip small talk and just plan a date, according to a March 2026 survey of 700 respondents. “So that’s how this idea was born,” Celebicic said.

Looking broadly at Hinge’s plan for 2026, Celebicic said the team wants to stay attuned with what Gen Z wants. It seems that whatever Hinge is doing is working, seeing as its direct revenue and paying users have soared year-over-year both last year and the year before.

Tinder, meanwhile, is declining in both metrics. In a recent interview with the Financial Times, Spencer Rascoff — CEO of both Tinder and Match Group, Tinder and Hinge’s parent company — said they want more women to use Tinder, and to increase the overall user base of the app.

Nicola Coughlan is awkwardly nostalgic in SNL UK promo skit

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan is hosting SNL UK this week, four weeks after she had a cameo appearance in the first episode during Tina Fey’s monologue — but you’d think she’d been away for years.

In the clip above Coughlan enters the stage with exaggerated nostalgia, greeting cast members Hammed Animashaun and Annabel Marlow as if she hasn’t seen them in years.

“I don’t even know if you guys remember me,” she says. “It’s Nicola Coughlan. I was actually here for the first ever episode of SNL UK.”

A few moments later, after she’s dismissed everyone, the host takes some time to yell at the empty theater.

“I’m back!” Coughlan cries. “Finally! Take that, Tina Fey! I’m the captain now.”

Lightweight drones like this have historically had to compromise on quality, but that’s not the case here. The Mini 5 Pro offers a massive 1-inch CMOS sensor, so whether you’re shooting 50MP stills or 4K/120fps slow-motion, the dynamic range is staggering.

The DJI Mini 5 Pro also makes use of forward-facing LiDAR that powers the new Nightscape Omnidirectional Sensing, allowing the drone to dodge branches, power lines, and buildings even when you can’t see them on your screen. The last thing you want to do is crash your brand new $1,099 drone. This helps avoid that haunting scenario.

You’re also getting 42GB of internal storage with this discounted drone. That means you can actually capture a full afternoon of 4K footage without needing an external card at all. It’s a simple feature that makes a huge difference for users.

AdultFriendFinder vs. Plenty of Fish: Most legit, success rates, and more

AdultFriendFinder vs. Plenty of Fish: Most legit, success rates, and more

In the online dating world, AdultFriendFinder and Plenty of Fish are certified OGs. These veteran dating sites were first established more than two decades ago, before both the social media era and the smartphone era. Yet both sites have continued to stay relevant, attracting millions of visitors from all over the world searching for connection.

That, however, is just about where the similarities end. In fact, you’d have a hard time finding two online dating sites less alike. Plenty of Fish operates like a conventional dating site, even adopting the smartphone-like “yes-or-no” carousel approach. AdultFriendFinder feels more like an X-rated site with a social media system built in.

Of course, rather than treating them as alternatives, you can choose to view them as complementary, with one offering a personality-first approach to dating more likely to deliver long-term connection and the other adopting a sexuality-first method that makes finding short-term, salacious fun easier than ever.

Intrigued to learn more? We put these two giants of the online dating world to the test to discover their respective strengths and weaknesses.

As both dating sites have been around forever, AdultFriendFinder and Plenty of Fish clearly deliver the goods for their users, but it’s striking to see just how different their respective approaches can be.

Site design

The contrast between the two sites is immediately evident from the aesthetic choices. Plenty of Fish uses softer, pastel colors and a clean, minimalist aesthetic to focus your attention on a single part of the website: your user profile, for example, or the profile of a prospective match. AdultFriendFinder, on the other hand, has a crowded site layout with ads, live streams, and user-generated content all sharing space and vying for your attention.

The AFF approach gives the impression that there’s a lot going on, like you just stumbled into a massive party, while the PoF approach is simultaneously less intimidating and less exciting. There’s another major difference that’s quickly apparent: AFF is an “adult” dating site, with nudity enabled by default in your profile settings, meaning a lot of what you will see on site is indistinguishable from an X-rated tube site, while Plenty of Fish curates their content much more heavily: no risqué live streams or genital-only photos in sight.

And speaking of that X-rated content: because AFF allows nudity on its site, it’s ineligible for inclusion on the most popular app stores, so you’re mostly confined to the on-site experience, while Plenty of Fish has an app in both the Google Play and Apple App stores, so you can swipe on the go as well.

By the numbers

While both sites are tight-lipped about their user information, independent reporting from Business of Apps suggests that Plenty of Fish has approximately 10 million active users at any one time, compared to AdultFriendFinder’s two million active users, with both sites having a roughly 60-40 male-female skew in their gender ratio, though more recent reporting suggests AFF may be closer to 65-35 today.

In either case, there’s no shortage of people for you to discover and talk to, though the farther you live from an urban hub, the more generous you’ll have to be in your search parameters.

The typical dating profile

Another obvious difference between the two sites is their approach to profile creation. With AFF, you can set up a profile in seconds, with no verification steps and minimal required data entry. Plenty of Fish, on the other hand, asks you a bevy of personal questions, from your level of education and whether or not you own a car to if your parents are divorced or still together and if you want kids or not. PoF also requires that you verify the phone number tied to your account using a six-digit verification code, while AFF only requires email verification.

AFF has its share of personal questions as well, but they’re not so much related to your religion or smoking habit as they are to your kinks and sexual preferences. Their popular My Kinks tab allows users to fly their freak flags freely, and then re-incorporates that information into one of their search options, so if, for example, you have a foot fetish, you can search for other people who share your fetish or they can search you out based on that fetish.

User experience

One thing you’ll quickly realize when using both sites is that PoF is a lot more generous in what they allow non-paying users to do. With AFF, you can basically only engage with other people in public spaces like the chat rooms and discussion forums. In fact, you can’t so much as view someone’s full profile without purchasing a Gold membership.

With PoF, by contrast, you can actually use the site, view user profiles, like user profiles, and even speak to other singles, all without spending a dime. That being said, a Premium or Prestige membership on Plenty of Fish still represents a massive quality-of-life upgrade, giving you unlimited likes, read receipts on messages, an ad-free site experience, and some pretty cool bonus features like the ability to see who has liked your profile or a Rewind button for when you accidentally skip over a profile that caught your eye.

From a purely aesthetic perspective, the PoF site is much cleaner and less distracting, even in the way it serves you ads, while the AFF site makes up for its busy design by offering a much wider variety of potential activities, including live streams, chat forums, blogs and sexy stories.

Success rates

The major difference between the two sites boils down to the users and what they’re looking for online. In general, Plenty of Fish users seem to be more dedicated daters, aspiring to long-term relationships and meaningful connections, while AdultFriendFinder’s users are much more obviously content with short-term connections, whether that’s a sexy chat or live stream or an in-person meetup.

In practice, that means that you’ll find AFF a much easier place to start a conversation or find a fling, while PoF users are clearly more selective in who they talk to, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that “success” is easier on one site than another. It also helps that AFF offers more venues for interaction: you can try to message a single person, sure, but you can also search out people who share your hobbies, interests or kinks and speak to them in a more public context like a forum or a live chat, which removes a lot of the stakes of one-on-one communication.

On the other hand, if you’re after something more long-term and high-stakes, Plenty of Fish users appear to be much more aware of what they want and what they don’t want in a partner. They’re at a stage of life when they’re taking dating seriously and PoF caters to this crowd, putting critical life information (are you a smoker? do you have kids?) front and center.

In other words, you’ll find the most success by being honest with yourself about what you’re looking for and choosing the appropriate dating site. Can you find love on AFF or a fling on PoF? Most definitely. But it will also be an uphill battle, given how the two sites are set up.

Xs custom timeline feature will sting for TweetDeck mourners

Xs custom timeline feature will sting for TweetDeck mourners

X has added the ability to sort your feed into multiple topic feeds, if you’re still on the platform. And yes, it sounds exactly like TweetDeck (RIP).

Announced Wednesday, the Elon Musk-owned platform now lets users build “Custom Timelines,” that collate up to 75 feeds on the home tab.

In an X post, Nikita Bier, the company’s head of product, revealed the Grok-powered feature, which is available in early access to those paying $8 per month ($84 per year) for X Premium, and only on iOS (Android promised “soon”).

“It’s powered by Grok’s understanding of every post with the algorithm’s personalization — meaning every timeline is made just for you,” wrote Bier. “And it works even better when it’s a topic you already engage with.”

If you’re a TweetDeck mourner, this might sting. The social media dashboard, which let users organise their feed across topics and accounts, was rebranded as XPro in 2023 and moved behind the X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) subscription.

Giving X users the ability to organise their own timeline topics might also address the For You feed algorithm’s lurch to the far right, though that remains to be seen.

Jimmy Kimmel responds to Tucker Carlson apologizing for supporting Trump

Jimmy Kimmel responds to Tucker Carlson apologizing for supporting Trump

Tucker Carlson, once a big supporter of Donald Trump, is now saying he regrets his decision to back the president — but Jimmy Kimmel has little sympathy.

“That’s big,” Kimmel says in the clip above, after playing a video from The Tucker Carlson Show of the host saying he’s “sorry for misleading people” about Trump. “Tucker Carlson apologizing for helping Trump get elected. I believe they call that liar’s remorse.”

With a clip, Kimmel goes on to assure viewers that even though Carlson has changed his views on Trump, he still says doctors are “like, the worst people in America.”

“Thanksgiving at the Carlson’s must be a barrel of laughs. ‘Doctors are the worst people.’ I hope that when Tucker Carlson shows up at an emergency room one day, all he hears from the doctors is this,” says Kimmel, cutting to a montage of Carlson’s own disturbing laugh. “Sometimes laughter is the worst medicine.”

The Tim Cook era at Apple is defined by 5 achievements

The Tim Cook era at Apple is defined by 5 achievements

Few CEOs ever arrived in the job with as tough an act to follow as Tim Cook did in 2011, replacing the late great Steve Jobs in his fast-declining days. Fewer still rise to the occasion — and get to leave so extraordinary a legacy to the next guy.

Apple’s head honcho, age 65, announced Monday that he’ll be stepping back come September. Cook will step into an emeritus role as Executive Chairman, while John Ternus takes the reins as CEO.

And out of all the major technological, financial, and logistical achievements of the past 14 years — which we’ve listed below — some business experts believe this in itself may be the greatest.

1. Apple’s second successful succession

“Cook’s legacy will extend beyond any products or shareholder value he created,” Laurie Barkman, adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business, tells Mashable. “Two successful transitions at the highest level do not happen by chance. They reflect a process embedded in the company’s operating model.”

Given how often ego-driven CEOs make a mess of their succession, paralyzing their executive team in the process — heck, just watch Succession for a taste of how bad it can get — this is no mean feat. That kind of operational mess is one of the reasons the average S&P 500 company lasts just 18 years.

But Cook, formerly Jobs’ Chief Operating Officer, was always known for sweating the logistics details. And that’s why Apple just celebrated its 50th birthday, looking more secure than ever.

Crucially, during Apple’s lean years before the iPhone, Cook saved the company by keeping inventory as low as possible. Controversially, he’s kept his China-dependent tech giant growing during a year of high tariffs by any means necessary, including cozying up to a president who doesn’t reflect Cook’s California values.

Now, by handing over the reins in such a calm and clear fashion, at a time of his choosing — as much as two years earlier than some analysts expected — Cook is showing off the well-oiled machine that Apple has become.

In short, taking Apple from “a one-time founder handoff into an institutional succession,” Barkman says, should be regarded as “Tim Cook’s greatest accomplishment.”

2. From Jobs’ billions to Cook’s trillions

The mercurial Jobs may have co-founded Apple, and he may have championed Apple’s ultimate money-making product, the iPhone, during his 1997-2011 return. But Jobs’ own ego-driven exit from the company in 1985 meant years were wasted in the wilderness, and even once he returned, he had to spend a decade pulling Apple back from the brink of irrelevance and extinction.

It worked, of course; Jobs bowed out when Apple shares were worth $350 billion in total, or $349 billion more than when Jobs took the company public. But consider what Cook did: his steady hand on the tiller took the company from $350 billion to more than $3.9 trillion in shareholder value.

Under Cook’s tenure, Apple became the first company in the world to pass the $1 trillion and then $2 trillion mark. Only one tech company can claim that it created more shareholder value in the last 15 years, and that’s NVIDIA — the main beneficiary of the AI craze.

And how did Cook do this? In large part, by making sure the iPhone didn’t go the way of the original Macintosh. The Mac was beautiful, pricy, and rapidly snowed under by boxy beige PCs running the Macintosh-like Windows, which almost killed Apple in the 1990s.

The smartphone wars looked like they were going the same way, with cheaper Android phones, particularly models made by Samsung, in the Windows seat. But thanks to Cook’s diligence, Apple just overtook Samsung as the world’s most popular smartphone manufacturer.

3. Apple made something new

Tim Cook, it’s fair to say, is a pretty cautious guy. He prefers to iterate rather than innovate. The iPhone 5, the last version of the device developed under Jobs, wasn’t too many worlds away from the iPhone 17 unveiled by Cook last year. The most memorable upgrades in between — the iPhone 7’s lack of headphone jack, the on-screen notch in the iPhone X, last year’s Liquid Glass — felt like tinkering around the edges.

The same goes for the iPad, introduced in 2010; the MacBook, introduced in 2006; and the Apple TV device, introduced in 2005. Design tweaks, cameras, color choices, and under-the-hood upgrades aside, these devices are all pretty much the same as they were when Steve Jobs last stepped into an Apple Store in 2011.

But there are a few new major Apple product categories Jobs wouldn’t recognize — and we’re not just talking about the Apple Vision Pro. (Jobs may at least recognize the reality distortion field Cook’s company built around this pricy augmented reality headset, and he’d probably agree with Cook’s move to pivot to smart glasses as soon as possible.)

The biggest product launched during the Cook era is the Apple Watch. First conceived by designer Jony Ive after Jobs’ death and unveiled in 2014, the Apple Watch quickly became the world’s top wearable. More than 100 million people currently use one, even if Apple Watch updates are the least exciting part of a modern Apple keynote event.

And then there’s the AirPods family of Bluetooth headphones — original (2016), Pro (2019), and the over-ear Max (2020). All were well received, and their success had a lot to do with Cook’s acquisition of Dr. Dre’s Beats headphones company for $3 billion in 2014. Arguably Cook’s riskiest move, the Beats purchase has since paid dividends — in headphone expertise as well as Beats sales.

4. Apple became a streaming giant

Never mind the Apple TV device, which would probably have found its way to a 4K version by now, no matter who was CEO. Cook’s larger legacy is the other Apple TV, a.k.a. the streaming service formerly known as Apple TV+. Launched in 2019, its secret sauce was Apple Studios, which took care of the all-original programming.

By focusing on quality and courting the biggest names in Hollywood, Apple Studios racked up an impressive series of wins in a short space of time. CODA (2021) became the first Best Picture Oscar-winner from any streaming service; Netflix had been chasing that prize for a decade. Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) made Martin Scorsese’s passion project a hit in theaters, and F1 (2025) became the highest-grossing sports film of all time.

Apple TV shows, meanwhile, have done what seemed impossible in the age of almost-infinite streaming. They’ve cut through and become part of the cultural conversation in a way we haven’t seen since Game of Thrones. Just as that show came to define TV in the 2010s, the 2020s are practically owned by Apple hits such as Emmy darling Ted Lasso (2020-), Severance (2022-), and Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus (2025-), the latter quickly becoming its most-watched show ever.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Apple went to town on sports programming (MLB, MLS, Formula One), kids’ shows and movies (Sesame Street, Charlie Brown), plus one word: Oprah. If any streaming service is starting to resemble an old-school TV network with a new flavor, it’s Apple TV. And by giving away a free year of subscription with Apple products — while resisting annoying Amazon-style ads — Cook has cannily ensured millions of us get hooked on its output.

5. Avoiding the AI trap

Conventional wisdom holds that Cook’s greatest weakness during his 15 years was his approach to AI. When ChatGPT was conquering hearts and minds in 2023, Cook was loath to even use the acronym AI in the pre-recorded keynotes he pioneered. Instead, he said Apple software had already been using “machine learning” for years. (Fact check: true.)

Cook’s belated compromise came in the form of Apple Intelligence, powered by an on-device version of ChatGPT — but Apple’s creaky 2011-era voice assistant, Siri, stood out like a sore thumb (pending a major 2026 upgrade). Even now, Cook seems to be betting that a quiet majority of consumers were turned off by AI and wanted its features to be limited, with a focus on privacy, accuracy, and mental health protections.

Cook may yet be proved right. Because here’s the thing about tech world conventional wisdom: it’s almost always wrong when applied to Apple.

Conventional wisdom said the company should have sold itself to Microsoft in 1997, leaving (we now know) $3 trillion in value on the table. Conventional wisdom said the original iMac should have had a disk drive and no USB ports; it single-handedly made USB a global standard. Conventional wisdom said consumers would never buy an MP3 player with a mere 5GB of storage; enter the iPod.

If the Cook-Ternus version of AI turns out to meet consumers where they’re at, rather than wowing tech media and investors first with outrageous claims, nobody will care that Apple took a few years to get there. If Apple Silicon (particularly the AI-friendly M5 chip) is ultimately more important than NVIDIA’s specialist GPUs — which they will be, if data center expansion continues to stall — then the company Cook built will easily snatch back the “world’s most valuable” crown from its rival.

And Tim Cook, Apple CEO emeritus, will look like a very smart cookie indeed.

This 27-inch LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitor is down to its lowest-ever price — now $400 off at Amazon

This 27-inch LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitor is down to its lowest-ever price — now $400 off at Amazon

TL;DR: Amazon has the LG 27-inch UltraGear OLED gaming monitor back on sale for $499.99, knocking $400 off its $899.99 list price. That’s a 44% discount on a QHD OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate, a 0.03ms response time, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification.

OLED gaming monitors are steadily becoming more affordable, but this returning Amazon deal on an LG model is worth jumping on right away.

As of April 22, Amazon has cut the price of LG’s 27-inch UltraGear OLED gaming monitor by 44% — dropping to $499.99 from $899.99. This brings this LG monitor back to its lowest ever price with the retailer, as confirmed with price tracker camelcamelcamel.

At 27 inches with QHD 2560 x 1440 resolution, this monitor hits a sweet spot for both competitive gaming and everyday desktop use, while fitting nicely into any setup without taking too much space. With a 240Hz refresh rate, this UltraGear monitor promises to keep even fast-paced titles running smoothly — the 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time means motion stays crisp without ghosting.

Effectively, these specs mean they’ll make a noticeable difference in anything you play; that’s whether you’re going for an intense multiplayer game like Overwatch or a cinematic story-driven game like Saros, Mouse: P.I. for Hire, or Pragmata.

No matter what you’re playing or watching, the LG UltraGear should make the experience even better with its added picture quality. After all, the OLED panel covers up to 98.5% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification backs up what you can see with your own eyes — blacks that are genuinely black, not the washed-out grey you get from most LCD panels.

It also plays nicely with a wide range of setups, with both NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro on board. The anti-glare coating, height and pivot-adjustable stand, and a two-year OLED warranty round out a package that’s hard to argue with at this price.

If you have a bit more space in your setup for an even bigger unit, the 45-inch curved LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitor is now over $400 off. If you want something from another brand, Samsung’s 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 is $300 off at Amazon.
