iPhone 18 Pro will be missing a popular color, leaker says
Were you planning to get a black iPhone 17 Pro last year, only to be sideswiped with the revelation that there was no black iPhone 17 Pro? Well, if you were hoping that Apple would come to its senses and release a black iPhone 18 Pro later this year, then we have more bad news for you.
According to one Apple leaker, Apple has no plans to release a black iPhone 18 Pro.
The leaker, known as Instant Digital on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, has a good track record when it comes to advance knowledge of Apple’s upcoming devices. Instant Digital has previously shared accurate information in previous iPhone leaks.
This would mark the second year in a row that Apple decided to pass on a black color option for its premium iPhone models. Apple shocked its fans last year when it released the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max without a standard black option (the phones were offered in silver, deep blue, and cosmic orange).
The iPhone 17 Pro line had an anodized aluminum body (instead of titanium), which proved to be extremely scratch-prone, and “scratchgate” could explain the lack of a black color option. Scratches were more visible with the darker deep blue colors.
As 9to5Mac points out, while the cosmic orange offering caught consumers off guard, the color option was actually widely popular and may have partially led to Apple having its best fiscal quarter in its history.
It appears Apple may be trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice. As Bloomberg‘s Apple insider Mark Gurman previously reported, the company is currently working on a “Deep Red” color offering for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models. This would be the first iPhone to come in any shade of red since the iPhone 14 was offered in red as part of the (PRODUCT)RED lineup.
For iPhone users who must have a black color smartphone, the iPhone 18 base model will likely still come in black. In addition, Apple is reportedly passing on any fun colors for the much-talked-about iPhone Fold, which is rumored to launch by the end of the year. Apple appears to be opting for more traditional Apple colors for its first foldable mobile device (think space gray and, yes, black).
With all that being said, Apple could still change its mind or even unveil a completely different color lineup for the new iPhone 18 line come September.

Samsung mentions this model uses the brand’s NQ4 AI Gen2 processor to ensure each scene has optimal brightness. The PlayStation 6 could ditch the built-in disc drive
The next generation of PlayStation consoles might not appeal to people who enjoy building physical game collections.
A hardware leaker known as KeplerL2 posted in the NeoGAF forums this week (via WCCF Tech), claiming that the still-unconfirmed PlayStation 6 will not have a disc drive built in.
In a reply to another user’s inquiry, KeplerL2 also said the base PS6 would come with just 1TB of storage space on its internal SSD. For reference, that’s exactly the same as most PS5 models. Typically, specs like that only get better over time, but it seems like Sony might make a lateral move at best for storage capacity this time around.
That’s almost certainly because of the AI-driven global RAM shortage, which was recently rumored to potentially cause the PS6 to miss its intended late 2027 launch date. All things being equal, Sony might be inclined to put a 2TB drive in each base PS5, but that might not be feasible right now.
As for the lack of a disc drive, that’s going to ruffle feathers for a multitude of reasons.
Yes, the PS5 has had a no-disc-drive variant since its launch in 2020, but Sony also sells a standalone attachable disc drive unit in case users want one. Obviously, Sony could do the same with the PS6, but we don’t know that yet. And while a large majority of video game sales happen in digital marketplaces as opposed to physical retail stores, plenty of people still like to own their games, whether it’s out of concern for digital storefronts eventually shutting down, or just to build a nice collection of physical media. And, of course, sometimes you get good discounts on used games.
Needless to say, if this is true, it will be controversial.

Sonys excellent ULT Wear noise-cancelling headphones are still over $100 off at Amazon

If you’ve got expensive taste, but a more moderate budget, the Sony ULT Wear headphones were made for you. And two days after Amazon’s Big Spring Sale officially came to a close, they’re still on sale for over 40% off.
As of April 2, you can pick up a pair of Sony ULT Wear noise-cancelling headphones at Amazon for just $148 instead of their list price of $249.99. That’s over $100 in savings, although not quite their lowest price on record.
Mashable Deputy Shopping Editor Miller Kern tested the ULT Wear headphones when they launched in 2024 and was “genuinely shocked” by how great they were. “We try not to make sweeping claims in our reviews at Mashable,” she writes, “but these honestly might be my favorite pair of headphones I’ve tried — especially when you consider the price.”
With comparable sound to Sony’s flagship headphones and heavy bass that can be bumped up two levels, these noise-cancellers earned the title of Mashable’s favorite headphones for bass heads. “The booming sound makes other (decidedly good) headphones sound flat,” Kern says.
Admittedly, they are slightly bulky compared to Sony’s much more expensive XM6s, but they do fold down for easier portability and come with a carrying case. Not to mention, on sale, the ULT Wears are less than half the price of the XM6s. They’re an excellent choice if you want a new pair of noise-cancelling headphones, but you’re balling on a budget.

What is Amazon First Reads?
Amazon First Reads is a monthly program in which eight editor-selected books are offered free to Prime members. Members are allowed to choose one book per month, which is then added to their library. Non-Prime members can still join in on the fun, but they have to pay $1.99 per book.

Some months, like Prime Day’s July and Black Friday’s November, offer two free books. And in others, you can select a free short story with your one free e-book.
To select your book, visit the Amazon First Reads home page to browse the options. As a Prime Member, you’ll see the option to “read now for free ” when you go to purchase the titles. Once you make your selection, it’ll automatically be added to your Kindle library.
Which books are featured in Amazon First Reads?
Among the eight books selected each month, the book editors at Amazon provide a variety of genres for every reader. The books are typically new or soon-to-be-released books — many of the books are published under one of Amazon’s publishing imprints, so they’re exclusive to Amazon’s shelves.
In addition to the eight full-length books offered each month, there’s typically a short story available, too, exclusive to read through the Kindle Store. April’s First Reads line-up feature eight novels, one children’s picture book, and one short read. This month’s short read, Lift Me Up, comes from Sunday Times bestselling author Milly Johnson. The enemies-to-lovers workplace romance is described as “A pitch-perfect love story for fans of Jenny Colgan, Debbie Macomber, and Katie Fforde,” by Maisie Lawrence, an Amazon book editor.
This month’s titles also includes a children’s picture book, Kimi the BALLerina, written by Korey Watari and illustrated by her husband Mike Wu, a former Pixar artist.

All of the books selected are technically purchased through the Kindle Store. But does that mean you need a Kindle to read them?
Nope! No Kindle e-reader is necessary to read books collected through First Reads. All books purchased through the Kindle Store are available in the Kindle app, which can be read on a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

There’s plenty to see if you have clear skies tonight. Even without visual aids to assist you, you can see the Kepler Crater, Aristarchus Plateau, and the Mare Tranquillitatis. If you do have assistance, in the form of binoculars, you’ll be able to spot more features, including the Posidonius and Endymion Craters. Finally, a telescope will give you many viewing opportunities, with the Apollo 11, Caucasus Mountains, and the Schiller Crater appearing the clearest.

The next Full Moon is predicted to take place on May 1, the first of two in May.
What are Moon phases?
According to NASA, the Moon takes about 29.5 days to circle Earth, moving through eight unique phases along the way. Although we always see the same side from Earth, different amounts of its surface are lit by the Sun as it orbits, causing it to appear fully illuminated, partially lit, or as a thin crescent. These changing views are called the lunar phases, and there are eight altogether:
New Moon – The Moon is between Earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, it’s invisible to the eye).
Waxing Crescent – A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).
First Quarter – Half of the Moon is lit on the right side. It looks like a half-Moon.
Waxing Gibbous – More than half is lit up, but it’s not quite full yet.
Full Moon – The whole face of the Moon is illuminated and fully visible.
Waning Gibbous – The Moon starts losing light on the right side. (Northern Hemisphere)
Third Quarter (or Last Quarter) – Another half-Moon, but now the left side is lit.
Waning Crescent – A thin sliver of light remains on the left side before going dark again.

The game is all about finding the “common threads between words.” And just like Wordle, Connections resets after midnight and each new set of words gets trickier and trickier—so we’ve served up some hints and tips to get you over the hurdle.

What is Connections?
The NYT‘s latest daily word game has become a social media hit. The Times credits associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu with helping to create the new word game and bringing it to the publications’ Games section. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there’s only one correct answer.
If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

Stephen Colbert reacts to the Artemis II moon mission
On Wednesday night, NASA’s Artemis II mission sent four astronauts in the Orion spacecraft on the first crewed moon mission since 1972, and Stephen Colbert is just as excited as the rest of us.
In the clip above, the host explains that this mission is the first step in a sequence of planned missions over the next couple of years, culminating in the Artemis IV moon landing in 2028.
“Ooh, I love a good franchise,” says Colbert. “After Artemis IV we’ll see Artemis V: The Way of Water, Artemis VI: Money Never Sleeps, and Austin Powers 3: The Artemis Who Shagged Me.”
Colbert goes on to talk more about the mission, from the planned route around the moon to the four astronauts on the ship.
“Wait a minute, that isn’t right,” Colbert says. “I don’t see Katy Perry in there. Is it really a space mission if Jeff Bezos hasn’t welded a terrified Gayle King into a metal tube?”

The Daily Show reacts to judge halting Trumps White House ballroom
Despite demolishing parts of the White House’s East Wing, Donald Trump’s $400 million new ballroom has hit a wall. After the U.S. president was sued by the National Trust for Historic Preservation over the controversial building project, on Wednesday, a federal judge temporarily stopped its construction, ruling “unless and until Congress blesses this project through statutory authorization, construction has to stop!”
On Wednesday night, The Daily Show host Desi Lydic unpacked the ruling by U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, which, according to CNN, “had 19 exclamation points.”
“19 exclamation points? Who is the judge, me writing a work email?” said Lydic. “‘The court demands an immediate halt in construction, but no worries if not! Exclamation point! Sideways smiley face!”
Lydic then examined the judge’s stipulation that the Trump administration, per NBC News, “can finish up projects so that they don’t leave the site unsafe,” with The Daily Show showing a clip of Trump in the Oval Office examining possible loopholes live during a press event.
“Son of a bitch, the judge said no ballroom,” said Lydic. “And President Amelia Bedelia took that to mean the judge is begging us to build that ballroom.”

While movie audiences turned out in droves for this sexy thriller, I couldn’t help but wish its leading ladies were evenly matched in go-for-it gravitas. As I wrote in my review, “In this battle of wild wills, Seyfried is left to shadowbox while Sweeney sleepwalks. 16. Crime 101
You might not know his name, but Bart Layton has been making some of the most thought-provoking true crime films of the last 15 years. In 2012, he delivered the mind-bending documentary The Imposter, which delved into a missing persons case that’s way, way stranger than fiction. In 2018, he blended fact and fiction — well, narrative and documentary filmmaking — with American Animals, which used big-name actors to reenact a crime while the real criminals reflect on the movie’s making in talking-head interviews and on the set. Now, he’s adapting Don Winslow’s 2010 novella Crime 101. Expect twists and WTF turns.
Chris Hemsworth stars as a dashing thief who’s been plaguing Los Angeles with one heist after another. When he meets a dissatisfied insurance broker (Halle Berry), he finds a new partner in business. Bumbling into a cartel’s scheme to traffic uranium across North Africa, they need to decide if they’re going to try save themselves or the world from nuclear war. Can these unlikely heroes save the day? While dodging a deadly cartel and the international agencies tracking them down? You’ll have to tune in to find out. — K.P.

9. Your Friends and Neighbors, Season 2
Jon Hamm is back to stealing in Your Friends and Neighbors Season 2. He plays disgraced hedge fund manager Andrew “Coop” Cooper, who’s doubling down on thieving from his wealthy suburban neighbors. However, a new neighbor, played by James Marsden, threatens to expose him, creating new tension in Vestment Village (and maybe, just maybe, some new dance memes). And guess what? 8. My Undesirable Friends: Part 1 – Last Air in Moscow
Celebrated by an array of critics groups, this documentary, My Undesirable Friends: Part 1 – Last Air in Moscow, follows Soviet-born American filmmaker Julia Loktev as she travels to Moscow in the winter of 2022, before Russia attacked Ukraine.
At this time, independent journalists had been declared “foreign agents” by Putin’s regime. So, Loktev and the doc’s co-director Anna Nemzer, talk show host for Russian’s last remaining independent channel, teamed up to interview journalists who pursued their vocation despite surveillance, legal persecution, and other threats.
Forget a stiff portrait of hard-nosed male news anchors. My Undesirable Friends captures young women who are bright, funny, defiant, and inspirational. — K.P.

7. Alien: Romulus
The Alien franchise returns to its roots with Alien: Romulus, a stone-cold horror fest that pits a group of young space colonists against the scariest creatures in the galaxy: good ol’ Xenomorphs. Chests will burst. Faces will be hugged. And director Fede Álvarez will deliver what might be the most gonzo, gross-out third act of an Alien film to date. The only thing holding Alien: Romulus back from true perfection? Too much fan service, including a cameo that’s sickening — and not in a good way.
Mashable Entertainment Editor Kristy Puchko said as much in her review. While she praised everything from the sound design (“you don’t just watch Alien: Romulus; you are absorbed into it”) to the film’s gore (“this movie had me dry-heaving”) to David Jonsson’s performance as android Andy (“David Jonsson steals this movie”), she also noted that its deference to what came before felt stifling.
“Alien: Romulus won’t be sunk by its flimsy final act,” she wrote, “but some of the thrill is lost amid the clutter of callbacks.” — B.E

6. Avatar: Fire and Ash
Is your TV the most rewarding way to experience the Academy Award–winning visual effects of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash? No, probably not. But will you still bask in the glory of Pandora? Absolutely.
In the third installment of the Avatar franchise, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family are once again on the run from Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang). This time, though, he has new allies in the form of the Ash People, a new Na’vi clan who worship fire and destruction. Their leader Varang (Oona Chaplin) is just the kind of spark these films need to keep growing, yet, as I wrote in my review, “Fire and Ash cannibalizes prior Avatar films’ best set pieces and story beats, resulting in a film that, while undeniably spectacular, relies too heavily on its prior installments, as opposed to the new Pandoran elements that could make it truly special.” — B.E.

5. The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson
Since her untimely death in 2022, the murder of Moriah “Mo” Wilson has been a recurring subject of true crime television. But even if you’ve seen the case before, I’d recommend watching The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson. Director Marina Zenovich interviews Wilson’s friends and family to create a full and moving and complicated portrait of its subject, refusing to define her purely by how she died.
Wilson was a gravel cyclist who’d gone to Austin for a race, and to catch up with friends. That’s where she’d be fatally shot in her friend’s house. Much attention has been paid to the incredible efforts the police put into tracking her killer, who fled the country under a false passport, and the prosecution case that used GPS tech to score a conviction. While these are elements of this Netflix documentary film (notably not a series), The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson focuses more on who Wilson was, delving deep into the romantic relationship that unfairly ended her life. The result doesn’t treat its subject as a cautionary tale, but as a girl who rode a path that might make you think, “But for the grace of God go I.” — K.P.

4. Scream 7
Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and Matthew Lillard reunited for Scream 7, marking the highest-grossing sequel this franchise has seen. But if you somehow missed how exactly Lillard is returning to the slasher film series after his Stu Macher was killed off by a TV in Scream, we’d recommend the video below. Visiting our Say More studio, he gave the only kind of spoilers he was allowed, through telepathy.
Shenanigans aside, Scream 7 brought Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson back to the franchise and on as director. The results were a wild ride that had Sydney Prescott (Campbell) defending her teen daughter Tatum (Isabel May) from Ghostface. In my review, I cheered, “As someone who has long counted Scream as the best of the batch, I yearned for a sequel that recaptured that feeling of discovery but also shared in my affection for the first film. Scream 7 does that, paying homage without being beholden to audience expectation or constrictive lore. Incredibly, Williams gives us a hearty dose of nostalgia and Easter eggs while providing new ideas, weird reveals, and fresh chills.” — K.P.

3. The Testament of Ann Lee
Amanda Seyfried stars as the eponymous religious leader, who builds community and love through chastity, song, and dance. Written by The Brutalist‘s screenwriters Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold (who also directs), The Testament of Ann Lee follows its subject from a grim childhood in England to America, where she develops the “Shaking Quakers” and faces violence for her faith.
Seyfried is extraordinary in a film stuffed with stellar performances. So, don’t overlook this like the Academy did. In my review out of TIFF, I wrote, “Told in movements, broken up by title cards quoting Bible verses like ‘The Woman Clothed by the Sun With the Moon Under Her Feet,’ The Testament of Ann Lee swells and swoons like an orchestra playing an epic opera. Less an investigation into her testament and more a reveling in its passion and resilience, this drama is dynamic and dreamy. It may not make you a believer, but it may well leave you awestruck.”* — K.P.

2. Dimension 20: On a Bus, Season 2
Last year, Game Changer gifted us with “Fool’s Gold,” where Katie Marovitch pitched herself as the Game Master for a new season of Dimension 20, despite a complete lack of understanding of tabletop role-playing games. The resulting video for “Dimension 20: On a Bus” had her perplexing the series’ storied Game Masters, Jasmine Bhullar, Aabria Iyengar, Matthew Mercer, and Brennan Lee Mulligan, with hilarious results.
Fun fact from Dropout: That video “generated over 6 million views across Game Changer’s social accounts and was ranked as the most highly rated episode of Dimension 20 according to IMDb.”

Harry Melling stars as meek parking attendant Colin, who embarks on a BDSM relationship with domineering bike gang leader Ray (Alexander Skarsgård). While their dynamic is unconventional to onlookers, it offers up heaps of self-discovery and enjoyment for Colin as he dips his toes into this world.
