Apple TV has another busy summer of sci-fi with Silo season 3 in July
  • Save

Over the last few years Apple TV has established itself as a force in sci-fi, and that trend looks to continue through 2026. Up next: the post-apocalyptic thriller Silo is returning for its third season on July 3rd. The 10 episode-long season will span 10 episodes and wrap up on September 4th, with new episodes streaming on Fridays.

Based on a trilogy of books from author Hugh Howey, Silo follows the residents of an underground city – the titular silo – that live in a tightly-controlled environment amidst a grim and deadly landscape outside their walls. The first season introduced the story as a small-town mystery, before season 2 steadily …

The Vergecast Vergecast, 2026 edition

We get a lot of questions about how The Verge works. And how The Vergecast works. And how we make money. And whether some of that money helps Nilay buy more jackets, several yachts, or something else entirely. So, every once in a while, we spend an episode of the podcast answering as many questions as we can.

On this episode of The Vergecast, Nilay and David are joined by The Verge‘s publisher, Helen Havlak, to talk about ads, subscriptions, our website, our audience, and more. Then, Nilay and David answer some more questions about how we think about journalism, our relationship with Verge alumni, video podcasts, and (of course) Brendan Car …

John Ternus’s first big problem is AI

John Ternus’s first big problem is AI
  • Save

Less than a year ago, Apple made headlines for a lack of AI announcements at its annual WWDC event. Ten months later, the company has announced that hardware executive John Ternus will succeed longtime CEO Tim Cook as chief executive – and the official release doesn’t mention AI once.

Ternus, currently Apple’s SVP of hardware engineering, will take over as CEO on September 1st, after Cook’s decade and a half in the role. Ternus is a 25-year veteran of the company and the first Apple CEO in about 30 years to come from the hardware sector. According to Apple, he’s led hardware engineering work for every model of iPad, as well as the most rec …

Splatoon Raiders hits the Switch 2 in July
  • Save

The squid kids will be back this summer. Nintendo announced this morning that Splatoon Raiders, a single-player spinoff of its competitive shooter series, will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 23rd. It’ll be the first new entry in the series since Splatoon 3 in 2022.

In addition to the date, Nintendo also released a new trailer that gives a better idea of what Raiders will actually play like. Essentially, it looks like it retains the same ink-focused shooter gameplay – and killer soundtrack – from the main series, but translates it to a new campaign. That said, while Nintendo describes the game as “single-player-focused,” Raiders doe …

The SpaceX IPO is a trillion-dollar gamble on the future of space

The SpaceX IPO is a trillion-dollar gamble on the future of space
  • Save

The great SpaceX IPO is looming, allowing outside investors – including regular Joe Schmoes, or retail investors – to buy a stake in one of the buzziest and most controversial companies on the planet for the first time. Depending on who you ask, it’s either the best investment opportunity you’ll see this decade or a fool’s errand to rip off credulous Musk fanboys. With valuations of the company going to sky-high levels, over $1 trillion according to some estimates, there’s certainly a furor around the potential for rich returns.

But is there really any money to be made in space?

Let’s be clear: There are plenty of companies making money …

Apple will have a product guy as CEO again

Apple will have a product guy as CEO again
  • Save

John Ternus is going to be Apple’s next CEO. And while outgoing CEO Tim Cook was lauded for his approach to logistics, Ternus’ history is that of a product person.

Ternus, Apple’s SVP of hardware engineering before being officially tapped to take over the top job, has been increasingly in the public eye to help Apple announce its latest products. Ternus helped introduce the iPhone Air last September, its flashiest new iPhone of the 2025 lineup. He’s also been the face of announcing new Macs for years, including Apple’s first Macs with Apple Silicon in 2020 that profoundly transformed Apple’s computer lineup, continuing through the 15-inch M …

Yelp is making its AI chatbot way more useful

Yelp is giving its chatbot assistant a major upgrade, turning the platform into something closer to a digital concierge with a suite of new features designed for “getting things done.” The move, one of several AI-focused updates in recent months, is part of a broader industry push to make AI more relevant and practically useful to consumers while turning huge troves of user-generated data into a competitive edge.

In a press release, Yelp says the Yelp Assistant chatbot will be at “the center of the app experience,” where it can answer questions, make recommendations, and even handle bookings in a single conversation. The bot will be availa …

Microsoft Teams is trying to fix accidental hand-raising

Microsoft Teams is trying to fix accidental hand-raising
  • Save

If you’ve ever had the embarrassing displeasure of interrupting a Microsoft Teams meeting by accidentally hitting the “raise hand” feature, then I have some good news for you. Microsoft is redesigning its online meeting software, which will move the raise hand button from the main toolbar and allow users to personalize the controls displayed there.

The update was announced on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap and is expected to roll out sometime in June this year. The changes will group the Raise Hand feature under the Reactions button “to reduce mis-clicks,” according to Microsoft, which is handy because the two functions are easy to conflate at a …

Ikea and Samsung promise glitch-free Matter integration

Ikea and Samsung promise glitch-free Matter integration
  • Save

Ikea’s two dozen Matter-over-Thread devices have proved problematic since launch, but Samsung says its SmartThings platform now has it all sorted. If true, it means Ikea’s sensors and complex remotes should actually display correctly, function flawlessly, and plug directly into Samsung’s advanced home automation routines without any issues.

To achieve this, Samsung says it has “built enhanced integrations” with Ikea’s scroll wheel remote, bulbs, smart plugs, and sensors for temperature, humidity, air quality, motion, water, and open doors and windows. Furthermore, “Samsung and Ikea conducted multiple rounds of validation to enhance connect …

Apple Sports now lets you follow scores in a CarPlay widget
  • Save

I was disappointed when Apple launched a new Sports iOS widget last year without CarPlay support, but I’m pleased to report that’s changing this week. The latest Apple Sports update includes widget support in CarPlay, allowing you to follow live sports scores for your favorite teams or leagues all within the new widgets interface in the iOS 26 version of CarPlay.

You can pick between a league widget that shows live scores and schedules for a league or sport you’re interested in, or a teams widget, which follows your favorite teams. Both widgets will show live scores, but they don’t appear to update in real time. I tested the widget during t …
